Spectrum Spread

Hi Jane,

I saw those muffin recipes in the Natrual Health mag too and decided to
try the Spectrum Spread for myself so I got some yesterday at the HFS.
The texture is a little "softer" than margarine but the taste is the
same. Unfortunately, it is total fat. Here are the ingredients and the
fat content:

Ingredients - 100% pure pressed canola oil, water, sea salt, xanthan and
guar gums, soy protein isolate, annatto, citric acid, sorbic acid,
natural butter flavor (non-dairy, soy based), tumeric.

Serving Size - 1 Tbs
Calories per serving 90
Calories from fat 90
Total Fat 11g
Saturated fat .5g
Polyunsat. fat 4g
Monounsat fat 7g
Sodium 85 mg

About the only thing it has going for it is that it is not hydrogenated!

<I was looking at the Sept/Oct issue of Natural Health and ran across>
<ingredient called Spectrum Spread that was used in place of margarine>
<and butter. Has anyone seen or used this? I'm wondering if it's just>
<a soy oil-version of butter, but hoping it's ff and vegan-compatible.>
<I've just joined a natural foods coop and would try to order some if>
<it fits our guidelines.  Thanks!>
