I think the reason the person said this (sorry I don't remember who) is
that McDougall recommends eating only 1 or 2 fruits a day because of the
high simple carbohydrate content.  The carbos in fruit will be processed
much more quickly than those in grains.  Also, it will make your blood
sugar peak higher and go lower, causing you to want to eat more and
more.  Whole grains will keep your blood sugar steadier.
