chickpeas with garlic, potatoes and green chillies

Delicious, simple dish adapted from a Madhur Jaffrey recipe:

8 cloves garlic
1 tsp. cumin seeds
2 good dessertspoons tom puree mixed with 3 oz water
500 gms cooked chickpeas
3 potatoes steamed and cubed
2 green chillies
1tsp ground cumin
1 tsp. amchoor or lemon juice
Blend garlic with 1 floz water to paste. 

Heat heavy/nonstick pot over a medium flame and then dry roast cumin seeds
for a few seconds.  They will have a lovely roasty smell.

A few seconds later put in garlic paste, cook, stirring for 2 mins.

Add tom puree mix and cook another min.

Add chickpeas, potatoes, 8 floz water (from cooking the potatoes), salt,
green chillies,
ground cumin and lemon juice.

Simmer 20 mins.

Very tasty, very garlicky.
