nutlettes and meat substitutes

I really like the plain Nutlettes, but mainly for their health-appeal and their crunch! They don't taste like much, so I always add them-1/4 cup-(I believe 1/2 cup is the recommended serving size, but that's too much for me) to my breakfast cereal. I love couscous and that's what I have for breakfast many mornings. Really easy, really quick and yummy. This is my "recipe".

To a bowl add:
1 cup frozen berries (raspberries and blueberries are my favourite) or other fruit.
1/3 cup whole wheat or regular couscous
1/4 cup Nutlettes
2/3 cup boiling water

Let stand for about 3 to 5 minutes.

1 cup of your favourite soy milk/rice milk/whatever poured over.

Enjoy!

I have tried several of the Dixie Diners Club meatloaf packages and a peppersteak and potatoes casserole, and the low-fat cranberry muffin mix. In a word-Yuck. They smelled great and looked great, but they had very little flavour (the peppersteak casserole), or an overpowering, almost bitter flavour in the meatloaf. The TVP was also quite glutinous. The muffins were rubbery (which could have been my cooking techniques!),but I make my own low-fat cranberry muffins and they come out not rubbery.

On the other hand the Soya King regular flavour Soy Chips were better than advertised-they were great:) as was the dried vegetable snack mix (I cannot think of its name-but you eat it like popcorn)my kids (16,19, 21 yrs)just LOVED it. We've been through 2 big pkgs of that already.
And the "jerky" was a huge success-very tasty, nice texture.
We also like the breakfast shakes in Lemon and Vanilla. (don't know about the chocolate-we have't tried it).

Well that's more than what you asked for, but hope it helped.
Sheila
