Sloppy Joes again

I sent this to the list a few months ago and am reposting it for those of
you who have TVP in the cupboard and didn't like it the first time you
tried it.  I have not used TVP very often, but do like this recipe.  It
calls for TVP beef granules, however I use the Bob's Red Mill brand which
is in a cellophane bag and in my regular grocery store.  Kathleen

   1 3/4  cups          hot water
   3      cloves        garlic -- minced
   1      large         onion -- chopped
   1                    green pepper -- diced
   2      stalks        celery -- diced
   6      ounces        canned tomato paste
     1/2  cup           catsup
   1      tablespoon    prepared yellow mustard
     2/3  cup           water
   1      teaspoon      dried basil
     1/2  teaspoon      dried oregano
     1/8  teaspoon      red pepper -- up to 1/4
   2      tablespoons   Worcestershire sauce
  12                    Hamburger buns
                        Herb and spice blend seasoning -- to taste
                        Pickles and sweet onions and greens -- as toppings
                        Nonfat cooking spray

Would you believe that you can be a vegetarian enjoy Sloppy Joes?  This
recipe uses TVP (texturized vegetable protein) in place of beef.

In medium-size mixing bowl reconstitute the TVP with the hot water.  Stir
to moisten the TVP.

In large kettle sprayed with nonfat cooking spray, saute garlic, onion,
green pepper and celery until soft.  Add the TVP, tomato paste, catsup,
mustard, water and seasonings and mix well.  Heat to blend flavors and
simmer 5 minutes.  Serve on hamburger buns with the condiments of your
choice.  This freezes well.

Nutrition information per serving: Calories: 191, Protein: 13g,
Carbohydrate: 32g, Fat: 2.5g, Cholesterol: 0mg, Sodium: 376mg, Fiber: 4.5g.
 Dietary Exchanges: 2 starch, and 1 lean meat.

protein, 0.3g fat.
