A question

Hi All -

I have a question about Indian spices & curries - I've noticed that people who
use oil in their cooking usually saute the spices in oil before asdding it to
the stew or whatever. This seems to blend the spices better. Do people on this
list think that helps it taste better and if so, what do you use instead of
oil?
